DEATH THROES (2019)
Welcome to the end. Post truth, baby. Post fact, post power, post CD-ROM.
A performance in three acts, with a prologue, and a little opportunistic in-show merchandising.
Setting ablaze the oppressive ideas, stories and images of our world in an attempt to topple the pyramid of hierarchical power under its own weight.
We’re disintegrating the grand narratives of history in an orgy of gleeful destruction, and starting again from scratch baby.
A perverse performance party inside the void
DEATH THROES was an international collaboration between performance artists Julia Croft and Harriet Gillies, and sound and light designer and theatre maker, Joe Lui. Developed and presented at the Blue Room Theatre, Western Australia, as part of their 2019 season. Supported by Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Government of Western Australia.
“Death Throes, an intimate and chaotic subjective reflection on the end of our current society..Their (Croft, Gillies & Lui) polyamorous collab has borne something strange and unusual, something challenging, unflinching, raw, sweaty and fun..They're fearless about making a performance that dances outside of convention, and have created something that has its own internal meaning."
“A playful, challenging work...Death Throes celebrates the joy of collaboration between like-minded creative forces, bringing audiences along for their exuberant ride.”
“Death Throes challenges the concept of power structures in language, hierarchies, capitalism and more. It dissolves the myths we keep perpetuating and reclaims language for those at the bottom of the totem pole. It’s post truth, post myth, and most certainly post language.”
